Morris’ Garages steps into EV markets with ZS EV

Morris’ Garages, a 94-year-old British sports car manufacturer had entered the Indian market with their stunning MG Hector, which pleased the audience with its very futuristic concept of ‘Internet Inside’. The brand has an exquisite history amongst the motor-heads. Morris Garages has always been one step ahead of its time with its innovative technologies.

MG today is ready with its new showstopper for the Indian automotive market, the MG ZS EV. On the first look the car it looks like the car has a very minimal design, which resembles the Jaguar F-pace on the front due to similar looking headlamps, and it is. It looks like a simple and sober car for the people who want to make a statement. The car looks resembles a crossover and is the size of a Hyundai Venue. It is designed like no other especially the star-like front grille, which opens up to reveal the charging sockets on the car.

The ZS EV makes a very strong contender for the upcoming Hyundai Kona Electric and with Peugeot set to enter the Indian market, the Peugeot stands right beside the two to compete. But what sets the MG apart from all the others is the premium fit and finish of the cabin. The kind of elements used in this piece of design are no less than exceptional. The dash gets the hint of chrome at just the right places and which does not feel overdone. MG has thrown in hints of Chinese friendship with the Audi A3’s aviation style AC vents and the steering mounted controls identical of that of a Volkswagen.

The British brand has also taken a step further by integrating a PM 2.5 filter for the air circulated inside the cabin. The ZS EV also boasts of a panoramic sunroof but is shy from of a very common feature, which is automatic climate control, which is least, expected from a car of this segment. The driving modes as well as regenerative systems can be adjusted by a set of very stylish switches. The ZS EV also gets features like tyre pressure monitors, electronic parking brakes, cruise control and heated ORVMs making life a tad bit easy for the winters. The car gets leather upholstery as well as electronically adjustable seats that keep you planted no matter what.

The important part for a motor-head, like myself are details, like it gets nice 17-inch wheels with diamond cut alloys. Even more importantly the car has got loads of torque at disposal owing to its electric motor, which pulls it from naught to 100 km/h in fewer than 9 seconds, which is a decent figure. The company claims a hefty 350 NM torque and a good 140 brake horsepower from the motor.

Overall the MG ZS EV is a very strong competitor to the other EVs staged to arrive in India as it has best in class quality of materials and is loaded with latest technology. It will be an interesting bet to make if the ZS EV will win the hearts of the masses or not.
